Metro Transit
during Construction
Metro
Transit bus
service will be maintained through the construction zone for the duration
of the project. Construction activities will require periodic and
sometimes extended detours of some routes, especially for buses that
normally turn onto or off East Washington Avenue at intersections within
the work zone. Information about bus service can be obtained from the
"Detours" section on the Metro Transit web site at
http://www.mymetrobus.com or from flyers available on the
buses. Please check the website often for the latest transit
information.
Stage 1
of construction will maintain the current bus stops on East Washington
Avenue at Second Street, Fourth Street, Sixth/Winnebago Streets,
North/Milwaukee Streets, Pawling Street, Oak Street, and westbound at
McCormick Avenue. The bus stops at Fifth Street will be closed at
the start of construction.
Stage 1 construction will also require
Route 4 to detour heading towards the South Transfer Point, using Fourth
Street instead of Fifth Street between East Washington Avenue and
Winnebago Street. A temporary bus stop will be placed on Fourth
Street.
Stage 2
of construction will maintain the current bus stops on East Washington
Avenue at Second Street, Fourth Street, Sixth Street westbound, and North
Street westbound. Temporary bus stops will be placed at Milwaukee
Street eastbound, East Johnson Street, and Marquette Street. There
will be no other stop locations along East Washington Avenue in the
construction zone. The westbound bus stop on Milwaukee Street at
East Washington Avenue will also be closed during this stage of
construction.
Stage 2 construction will require
Route 4 to continue its detour heading
towards the South Transfer Point, using Fourth Street instead of Fifth
Street between East Washington Avenue and Winnebago Street. A
temporary bus stop will be placed on Fourth Street.
Route 4 heading towards the North
Transfer Point will also detour along Fourth Street instead of using
Winnebago Street to East Washington Avenue.
Route 4 heading towards the North
Transfer Point will also be required to detour off of Oak Street between
East Washington Avenue and Commercial Avenue. The alternative might
be along McCormick Avenue - but if this is not available, buses will need
to use East Johnson Street and/or North Street to travel between East
Washington Avenue and Commercial Avenue. Limited closures of
Milwaukee Street will require period detours of
Routes 5, 9, 14, and 15.
Information for Stages 3-5 will be posted later as construction
progresses.
